Lineage Templates
Ready-to-use Markdown templates from the Transparent AI in Education framework. Copy the structure directly or download the files.
These templates implement the two-document lineage framework from Appendix B of The Practitioner. The Student Lineage Document captures the full journey from raw idea to refined output. The Tutor Observation MD provides the complementary review structure for educators.
Both templates are plain Markdown — they work in any text editor, note-taking app, or AI assistant. The structure is intentional: each section is designed to produce evidence of genuine intellectual engagement that cannot be faked without doing the underlying work.

Student Lineage Document

How to use these
Download the template and open it in any Markdown editor — Obsidian, Notion, VS Code, or a simple text file all work. Replace the bracketed placeholder text with your own content as you work through the process.
The first time through, work through each section manually. The friction is the point: it builds the habits of thinking that make the practice valuable. After the first ten iterations, move to an automated workflow. See the Lineage Automation skill for how.
If you are an educator adopting this framework, the Tutor Observation MD is designed to be completed in sequence: AI sweep first, personal review second, summary third. The gate decision at the end of the document closes Phase 1 and opens Phase 2.
